The carving and painting of the Wood Duck Hen is demonstrated on this CD. Although the relaxed posture of this design appears simple, there is a significant level of complexity with the exposed wing and interesting composition of the feather layout. This bird can best be described as a decorative smoothie with some texture in the crest region. However, the painting techniques shown can be applied to a carving of any level of finish. Pat shows his methods of developing convincing illusions of subtle and brilliant iridescence. Some of these techniques utilize airbrushing as well as other methods such as wet-into-wet blending.
